Egg-ceptional’ Omelette Unveiled at Broadgate

Posted on 30 April 2012 by Chris Ford

London’s Broadgate based restaurant  Piccolino has unveiled what they call the most luxurious omelette for City London workers, recently we were invited to try the £35 dish for ourselves.

So we headed down to Piccolino which is located in the Broadgate area of the city, home to some of the worlds biggest corporations, occupying 30 acres in the heart of London’s Square Mile, 30,000 people work here every weekday and they are well catered for with  numerous restaurants, cafes bars and coffee shops in the area.

This was my first time visiting Broadgate and its a stunning modern almost futuristic looking area, I particularly liked the various sculptures and art scattered about the area, they are worth a visit on their own.

From the moment we entered Piccolino the the service was exceptional , I particularity liked the way our waiter explained all the different ingredients that would be in the omelette and their origins.

Created by head chef, Enzo Buscema and costing  £35, the  ‘Eggs-change Square Omelette’  is served with handpicked asparagus and drizzled with Canti prosecco . Having carefully blended hundreds of ingredients over a two month period, including the hero Tartufo truffle, sourced from Abruzzo, Italy and popular amongst the Italian Royal Family, Enzo’s final recipe includes:

  • One duck egg from Sussex
  • Five Porcini mushrooms from the Trentino Alpi
  • Seven shavings of Caciocavallo Podolico from Podolico
  • Five shavings of Tartufo Nero Truffles from Abruzzo
  • Five shavings of Testun Barolo cheese from Piemonte
  • Three stems of wild asparagus from Sicily
  • Three stems of Radicchio from Treviso
  • A drizzle of Colonna olive oil from Tuscany
  • A drizzle of Canti prosecco from Canti

Our verdict?  we both agreed it was delicious and a real indulgent way to start your working day.

You wont find the omelette on the menu though, but when you go ask your waiter and the chef will specially prepare you this delightful feast.

LG launch Next Generation of Television

Posted on 25 April 2012 by Chris Ford

Recently I was invited to the UK launch of LG’s new range of 3D Smart Tv’s in London’s Soho House.

Television has come a long way since I was little, I remember the first TV I had was a simple black and white portable in my bedroom with four channels, I dont think back then I could even dream of the features that have been developed in this new TV’s, the most exciting of which I will briefly explain here

3D TV – I have seen 3D movies before in the cinema as alot of you may have done and watching the demonstration some media works better than others in 3d,  for example I felt the Football footage really didn’t work, the players were like cardboard cut-outs on a flat pitch but by contrast some of the Pirates of the Caribbean footage was absolutely stunning in 3d, swords felt like they were coming at me, and a swear a cannon ball just missed my head at one point!

Gaming –  A very clever feature demonstrated was the ability with special glasses to play a two player game but without a split screen, so in your vision the screen is full of your game characters point of view and in your friends the screen is full of theirs,  very clever and works perfectly.

2d to 3D conversion –  The LG Tv’s come with a feature that enables you to take a standard DVD and up covert it to 3D, I didn’t get a chance to see this in action but I’m very interested to see how good this is.

Internet Intergeneration –  These new range of TV’s have the likes of You Tube, Netflix and other on demand video services built into them with the ability to add and customise the internet widgets you need, this to me was the most impressive part of these new TV’s and I think I’m sold on picking one up as soon as I can.

Montezuma’s Monkey Bars!

Montezuma’s Monkey Bars!

Posted on 19 April 2012 by Chris Ford

I have told you before about Montezuma’s excellent Chocolate club where each month they send you a wonderful selection of their inspired chocolate for you to indulge in.  Well there’s more!

Inspired by a very special year for Britain, when we celebrate both the Royal Jubilee and the Olympics , Montezuma have developed their ‘Monkey Bar’ range  ( Monkey being cockney rhyming slang for 500).  Each bar has its own rhyming  slang name – having sampled a few I think my favourite is Nanny Goat (Boat)  which is a Venezuelan Milk chocolate with salted peanuts and butterscotch .

My usual chocolate choice is mainly a off the shelf famous brand of cheap milk chocolate and after sampling there really is no way back, much like when I first started making filter coffee I cant drink instant anymore the different really is night and day in terms of flavour.

There are five flavours to choose from in the massive 10″ by 6″ bar ideal for sharing or keeping all to yourself! (ahem )

The Bars are available from Montezumas.co.uk  one of their five shops as well as John Lewis and all good independent fine food stores nationwide with a RRP of £13.99

Stowells Light – Low Calorie Wine

Posted on 13 April 2012 by Chris Ford

Most of us could do with loosing a bit of weight and as much as I love a drink alot of calories come with that glass of wine, well Stowells have done something about that!

Recently I was sent a bottle of Stowells new low calorie wine Stowells light, Stowells say a glass of their wine contains 120 calories less than a packet of Malteasers which sounds promising! but does it taste good?  well for me the surprising answer is yes, I thought it tasted fresh and fruity and you really wouldn’t know this was a low calorie option, in fact my friend who I shared a glass with had no idea until I told her.

Stowells Light currently comes in two varieties

Stowells Light White:

Made from a blend of Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc, Stowells Light White is bursting with melon, pear and apricot fruit flavours, balancing fresh acidity with a touch of sweetness.

Stowells Light Rosé:

This Shiraz Rose is a vibrant youthful pink, full of juicy strawberry, raspberry and cherry fruit flavours.  Perfectly balanced with a zesty acidity and a touch of sweetness.

With just 60 calories per glass, that’s 30 per cent less than a standard glass of wine, and less than one unit of alcohol per 125ml serving, the crisp flavours of its Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc  grapes are perfect to enjoy on it’s own or with a Mediterranean fish stews; with the Shiraz Rose an ideal partner to fresh salads.

Stowells Light is available at all ASDA stores nationwide for RRP £5.49
