Quorn, What is it good for?

Quorn, What is it good for?

Posted on 31 August 2015 by Chris Ford

I’m a meat eater 100%, the idea of veggie alternatives to things like burgers, sausages and chicken have never really interested me, why would I bother?  and thats pretty much the mind set I brought with me when I was invited by Quorn to a BBQ event using you guessed it nothing but Quorn as the protein source.

Quorn_sausages_visual_v1

So what is in Quorn I hear you ask?  well I wondered that too, Quorn’s main ingredient is Mycoprotein, a nutritious member of the fungi family that is grown by fermentation similar to the process used in the production of bread, yoghurt and beer.

Then you wonder Quorn foods healthy? or healhier than their meat conterparts? Yes!
Mycoprotein, the main ingredient used to make Quorn products, is a healthy protein source
and good source of dietary fibre and is low in fat especially saturated fat. Many Quorn products are
a source of protein, which contributes to the maintenance of normal bones. Many Quorn products are also low in saturated fat. Reducing the amount of saturated fat in the diet can help to maintain normal blood cholesterol levels as part of a healthy lifestyle and a varied and balanced diet.
 0D9A3589
All the above is all well and good but does Quorn taste any good? well that’s what we were at the BBQ to find out and we tried a wide range of products from Quorn and I can say I was mostly really impressed, certainly seasonings and dressings help, a plain Quorn burger to me is never going to blow you away but then would a plain beef burger do much for you? in my case no not really.
0D9A3622
I think my favourite Quorn products from the night were the burgers and the sausages,  with both I didnt feel like I was missing out by not having meat and the recipies created by by the Quorn chefs on the night were amazing, I have shared below a few of my favourties that I hope you can enjoy too, I have already made the burgers at home twice so they are a massive hit in my household

Making Cocktails with Jägermeister

Posted on 26 August 2015 by Chris Ford

the weathers been a bit miserable this week so to cheer myself up I thought I would make myself a cocktail and imagine I’m sitting by a sunny beach somewhere (or at least try!)

I had some Jägermeister in the fridge so thought Id try this recipe I found on their website called the Root 56 and very glad I did!

Jägermeister Root 56

Pour 50ml of Jägermeister over ice in a long glass.

Fill the remainder of the glass with Old Jamaica Ginger Beer

Finish with sliced cucumber and lime

IMG_4275

The result is a very different drink to Jägermeister straight up the cucumber, ginger beer and lime all work really well to compliment the flavour of the Jägermeister making an absolute winner of a cocktail, I didn’t have any ice in so mine had a bit more space for ginger beer but if anything this was a great thing, I loved the ROOT 56 and Im sure you will too.

Bottles of Jägermeister are currently available in special Root 56 packs that combine a bottle of Jägermeister and a can of Old Jamaica ginger beer.

My Morning Routine – National Grooming Day

My Morning Routine – National Grooming Day

Posted on 21 August 2015 by Chris Ford

Well today is National grooming day and to celebrate Mira Showers the bathroom specialists asked me to share with you what I get up to in my bathroom as part of my morning routine so here we go:

Brush My Teeth

Philips-Sonicare-Flexcare-Platinum
The first thing I do is brush my teeth, I use a sonicare tooth brush and have done for years, trust me if you haven’t used one it will change your life!
Shower

Electric_BG_p1
Every morning I jump in the shower first washing a shower gel then on alternated days I shampoo my hair and finally while in the shower I use a facial cleanser, I love the bright awake feeling it gives me when I wash it off, amazing way to start the day!
Moisturise

daily-facial-2_1024x1024
I only started moisturising a few years ago but feel so much better for it, I rub some mosituriser in my face before bed and when I get out of the shower in the morning, if you don’t currently moisturise you really should start.
Style Hair
When I was younger I used gel to sickly heavy levels, now I use a simple Pomade to slick back my hair leaving a much more natural look and feel than that gel ever did!
Shave

I’m going through a scruffy beard phase at the moment but when not I would shave daily using a shave gel as opposed to cream, I’ve always found the cream messy and annoying a gel is a much simpler solution.

So there you go its basic but it gets the job done!

The Pen – The Classic Status Symbol

The Pen – The Classic Status Symbol

Posted on 12 August 2015 by Chris Ford

I go through an awful lot of pens. Why? Brazen theft, that’s why!
Every day, my workmates will come over to my desk, pick up my pen, and walk off with it. They say it’s unintentional – after all, who can distinguish one disposable Bic from another? But accidental or not, I needed a solution to stop my pens vanishing, and opted for something classier than getting on of those chains they use in banks.
With my birthday coming up, I decided to treat myself to a decent pen. And not only a good pen but one with my name on it to try to curtail those klepto pen fairies roaming about my office.

image1
I ended up at Pen Heaven. It was started in 2008 by owner Keith Cole who says he’s always had a passion for pens and the experience of a hand written note. I must say Pen Heaven really has something for everyone, from those on a budget to those really looking to splash out.
As mentioned I wanted to personalise my pen to try and stop it going walkies and the whole process was very simple. Select the engraved pens section (which narrows down the pens that are able to be engraved) then it’s just a matter of choosing your pen and typing in your desired text.

IMG_4179
After much deliberation I selected a sterling silver roller ball from Otto Hut, a German pen manufacturer I hadn’t heard of before, but really like their simple elegant designs.
So I ordered my engraved pen about 3pm and to my surprise a courier arrived with it the very next day. Now that’s service.

IMG_4180
The Otto Hut pen is reassuringly solid and feels extremely well made. I have been using the pen for about a week now. It’s a pleasure to write with and the subtle engraving is very impressive. I must also add that so far no-one has pilfered my pen or at least if they have they have seen my name on it and returned it to its rightful owner.
Pen Heaven have been a pleasure to deal with from start to finish. The website is cleanly laid out and it was very easy to customise my purchase which then arrived with superfast delivery. So if you are on the looking for a special pen you can’t go wrong with Pen Heaven!

A Wimbledon Retrospective

A Wimbledon Retrospective

Posted on 06 August 2015 by Chris Ford

As I sit here on a as usual unpredictably sunny day at home stranded somewhat because of the tube strike here in London I hear a knock on the door from the mail man, and it’s a nice surprise instead of a bill for once!

IMG_4130

Stella Artois are sponsors of this years Wimbledon tournament and kindly sent me some goodies from the event, I’ve just got the beer nice and cold and it reminds me how I do overlook good solid lagers like Stella Artois, sometimes I’m so focused on craft beers and local breweries I forgot there is a time and a place for all types of beer and for me on a hot sunny day nothing beats an ice cold glass of Stella, I’m not just saying this because they sent me a few bottles it really does hit the spot with its crisp smooth taste which is totally what you want on a hot sunny day.

Anyway back to Wimbledon, I really enjoyed the tournament this year I wasn’t lucky enough to go but the coverage on tv as usual has been excellent and in honor of that I thought Id remind you of the past Wimbledon men’s winners in the noughties :

So as you can see there is defiantly form for multiple wins in the men’s tournament so will Murray do it again next year? I really hope so its time Britain starts winning things again!
