THE STANFORD PRISON EXPERIMENT Comp!

Posted on 30 June 2016 by Chris Ford

THE STANFORD PRISON EXPERIMENT is based on the notorious 1971 psychological study by Stanford University professor Dr Philip Zimbardo, who consulted closely on the making of the film. Billy Crudup (Spotlight, Watchmen) stars as the professor who cast 24 student volunteers as prisoners and guards in a simulated jail to examine the source of abusive behaviour in the prison system. The results astonished the world, as participants went from middle-class undergrads to drunk-with-power sadists and submissive victims in just a few short days.

This chilling, edge-of-your-seat thriller is released in cinemas on 10th June, on Digital Download from 13th June and on Blu-ray™ and DVD from 27th June and we three copies of the DVD to give away to lucky readers.

Atari: Game Over – Review

Posted on 02 February 2015 by Chris Ford

I’m a little too young to be of the Atari generation but I still remember it fondly, going round to cousins houses and being in awe of the games, as simple and basic as they seem now they were ground breaking back then and with the release of new documentary Atari : Game Over my interest has sparked up again.

atari2

First of all the concept is a little strange I admit, the main story of the film follows a group of Atari enthusiasts as they discover if the legend of Atari burying a mass stock of a failed game in the desert is reality  or a myth.

atari1

Why do they care? Well after watching it I’m still not sure other than a geeky curiosity crossed between some kind archaeological preservation of past gaming history.
The most interesting part of this documentary though isn’t the search for the games themselves but the story of the rise and fall of Atari and what is purported to be the worst video game of all time.
If you have a interest in gaming, Atari or tech in general then Atari: Game Over is well worth checking out.

ATARI: GAME OVER, available on VOD in the UK, US, Australia and Japan from now.

AN OVERSIMPLIFICATION OF HER BEAUTY

Posted on 10 February 2014 by Chris Ford

If you are looking for something a bit different to take your partner to this Valentine’s day then how about the new film written and directed by Terence Nance?
An Oversimplification of Her Beauty 2012
The film focuses in as a artist hypothesizes about why he feels bad when a mystery girl stands him up. The event prompts him to ask: what’s the content of a momentary feeling? Is it the sum of your experiences? And, perhaps more importantly, are your experiences the sum of you?
I wont say anymore than that as its one of those films that’s both hard to explain but in a way it would also spoil it to do so too much, but I think it’s a perfect film for Valentines Day that explores relationships and what they mean to each of us.
The film is out now in selected UK cinemas through Picturehouse cinemas.

Picturehouse is the leading independent cinema chain in the UK and will also be supporting the film through their ‘Discover Tuesdays’ programming. All participating cinemas will be screening An Oversimplification Of Her Beauty on Tuesday 11th February.
To find out details of where the film is showing and book tickets go to: http://www.picturehouses.co.uk/Picturehouse_Recommends/Discover_Tuesdays/
Picturehouse have kindly offered a signed script from the film by director Terence Nance, for a chance of winning just email us at enterthecomp@gmail.com and also make sure you are a subscriber to the site.
A winner will be picked at random on the 14th Feb 2014

Posted on 21 September 2012 by Chris Ford

This week  Stella Artois is giving film fans the chance to win tickets to the UK preview of ‘Looper’, a futuristic action thriller set in 2044 which follows a time travelling assassin who eliminates targets sent back in time by a criminal organisation. The only rule is that you do not let your target escape – even if that target is you. Stella Artois has partnered with Picturehouse Cinemas and leading film magazine Little White Lies to host this special preview.

The film follows Joseph Simmons, played by Joseph Gordon-Levitt, working as a “Looper” (‘assassin’) in the illegal time travel business whose job is to travel 30 years into the past to get rid of his targets. In a gripping twist, Simmons recognises one target as a future version of himself, played by Bruce Willis, who escapes before he is killed. Joseph then triggers a manhunt by his mafia employers, for failure to complete his mission. Emily Blunt joins the star-studded cast for this futuristic action thriller.

The rules are put to the test when Joe is called upon to “close his loop” and assassinate his future self (Bruce Willis). In failing to pull the trigger, so begins a desperate race against the clock as Joe begins to unravel his own future and older Joe’s past.
