According to Wikipedia Southern Comfort is an American liqueur made from neutral spirits with fruit, spice and whiskey I must admit I always assumed as a casual spirits drinker that it was just another regular bourbon!

My first introduction to Southern Comfort was many years ago when as someone new to drinking it was suggest Southern Comfort would be nice with lemonade, and it was! since then that’s the only way I have really drank the brand.

In honour of Southern Comforts current ‘Drink Yourself’ challenge where they ask you to create your own Southern Comfort based drink on their website I thought I would do something a bit different, so I present to you

The Comfort Old Fashioned

A Dash of Angostura Bitters
1 tspn of Sugar
1/2 a Measure of water (half a shot glass)
1 Measure (shot glass) of Southern Comfort
1 Cherry, 1 Slice of Orange 1 lemon peel

Stir the sugar, bitters, and water in a glass.
Add Ice
Pour in Southern Comfort.
Stir then top with a Cherry and slice of orange and lemon peel.

So there you go a real Gentlemens drink from the Mad Men era of the 60s, I found my inspiration here from an original 60s drinks menu which is rather cool.

If you want to mix your own Southern Comfort drink head over to now.
