Solo by Loewe

Posted on 16 April 2013 by Chris Ford

I’m often sent aftershaves to try in the hope I will write something about them and too often I just cant as they just don’t do much for me, you see I know what I like and tend to stick with it and that means I mostly wear Issey Miyake L’eau D’issey Pour Homme, its a classic scent that I’m often  complimented on.

So I wasn’t sure what to think when I was sent Loewe’s Solo fragrance, for one I admit I havent heard of the brand before although it turns out they have been around since  1846 when a group of craftsmen opened a leather goods workshop
in central Madrid. Within a few years they had established themselves as one of the best names in leather goods and fashion, a trait they still hold dear to this day.
Loewe is now well established in high end fashion with Karl Lagerfeld, Giorgio Armani and Laura Biagiotti all having contributed to the Loewe collections.

Loewe launched their first scent in 1985, and has since become a market leader in Spain.

Upon the first spray of the scent I was pleasantly surprised, it actually reminds me alot of my beloved Issey Miyake with its citrus tones  and spiciness but Loewe also have their own unmistakable scent here which they make their own. I’m not the best at describing scents but I know what I like and I like Solo. I wore it out yesterday to meet a friend for lunch and no less than three people enquired as to what I was wearing which is a very good sign indeed!

You can pick up Loewe Solo on the high street at  The Fragrance Shop or visit www.thefragranceshop.co.uk

Freshen up with Manatomicals

Posted on 02 April 2013 by Chris Ford

Up until recently most shower gel products I found were mainly aimed at women  and alot are citrus like smells which are fine and I use them but its nice when a product line comes along focused at men for men.

A offshoot of the popular Anatomicals line these are pocket friendly products that looks and smell great. In fact having used a few of the shower gels over the last couple of weeks they really feel and look like a quality product it doesn’t seem like its a budget line where often its glaringly obvious that you get what you pay for.

the packaging design is bright cool and modern and doesn’t look out of place in the modern style conscious bathroom , each product is also covered has a quirky product description. This week I have been using the Manatomicals ‘Young Free and Tingle Wake Up Hair & Body Wash’  and it certainly wakes you up! , I cant pinpoint the fragrance but it certainly wakes you up and smells good, in fact I haven’t used another shower gel quite like this and at less than £3 a tube its a complete winner in my book.

The  Manatomicals line is available now from Waitrose and Boots Stores nationwide

Chatham Marine – Orwell Country Desert Boots

Posted on 29 January 2013 by Chris Ford

I hadn’t heard of Chatham Marine until recently but it seems they are a British company that have been around for 20years  catering for what they call the ‘weekend sailor’  supplying everything from waterproof clothing to polo shirts , hats and footwear.

For a while I have been looking for a Desert Boot style casual shoe and had yet to pull the trigger as every time I found a pair I liked they either didn’t have my size or I felt they were a little pricey.

Then I came across  Chatham Marines Orwell Country Desert Boot, keenly priced at £59.00 and looking exactly how I imagined the perfect boots would I went ahead and got a pair in Brown.    I received the boots a few weeks ago and I have to say I am nothing but happy and quite frankly really impressed how well made they are, as they were only  £59.00 I wasn’t expecting anything amazing but the quality of these boots and the solid construction really is impressive, in fact  several colleagues have asked me where I bought them and that I think is a true sign that something looks good, when others covert them!

If you would like your own pair or to explore the rest of the range offered by Chatham Marine head over to

The Perfect Shave By Jason Shankey

Posted on 14 July 2011 by Chris Ford

Belfast based Male Grooming expert Jason Shankey, who launched his unique range of hair and skincare products into the Urban Retreat at Harrods this year, has now gone one step further by promising men a completely pain-free shave.

The Perfect Shave comprises Shankey’s three shaving products and his expert guide to shaving, all packaged together in a gorgeous, masculine box.

Shankey, who is a regular contributor to magazines such as Men’s Health and FHM, and TV shows including 10 years younger, told us “97% of men suffer from pain, irritation and redness due to shaving, and my unique ‘Perfect Shave’ recipe utilises our three hero products which target men’s underlying shaving problems, facilitating a quick, painless and easy to follow daily routine.

His range of products were developed over a number of years using a hands-on approach, and contain a fascinating list of ingredients which claim to help men’s skin to look clearer, healthier and younger. In Northern Ireland, it is available exclusively in his salons and at House of Fraser Belfast.

From hair growth inhibitors to super exfoliants, his range guarantees a pain-free shave by targeting both the natural and man made processes which cause skin to look red and aggravated, resulting in baby smooth skin with no visible signs of redness.

“By slowing down the beard regrowth, men don’t need to shave as often. And shaving less often means less scraping of the skin, resulting in better looking skin”, he said.

The Perfect Shave gift box is £48  More details about his products can be found on the company’s website: www.jasonshankey.com/expert
