Say it with steak this Valentine’s Day

Many men – me included – struggle for what to do for Valentine’s Day. If you don’t get in quick, most places get booked up and even if you do get a table somewhere, your dinner can be over-priced and often feels rushed as the restaurant prepares to turn your table over for their next loving couple!
So, it was with interest, that the lovely people at Beefeater contacted me last week asking me if I’d like to experience what they had to offer in the run up to Valentine’s Day. Not being one to turn down steak, I, of course, said yes and dragged the girlfriend along!

We chose The Orchard in Ruislip, which is a lovely old converted building with a modern comfortable setting inside.
First thing I noticed on the menu is that (as you’d expect from the name) Beefeater love their steak, there was a diverse selection of cuts from rump, sirloin, rib-eye and even flat iron. Not to worry if you aren’t a steak lover though as there’s also a good range of alternatives from chicken ribs and burgers and a whole veggie section.
Spotting the steaks just delivered to the next table, we opted to skip starters and go straight to the main event: STEAK!

Kate decided to go for the sirloin having seen how amazing it looked, being fairly new to steaks (a recent veggie convert) I wasn’t sure how she would find it but she loved it! In fact we only went on Saturday and she has already mentioned going back.

I fancied the idea of having a bit of everything so went for the mixed grill and was blown away when this mountain of food arrived on my plate. Everything was perfectly cooked. The chicken was still juicy and the steak was medium, exactly how I requested.

One thing I should point out is the option to order unlimited chips. Not that I needed to avail myself of a second bowl, having ordered the massive mixed grill but the option was there and I think it’s a fantastic idea. The amount of times we’ve been out and Kate ends up stealing half of my fries because she’s ordered a salad… In fact Beefeater is perfect for sharing.
After our mains, we were pretty full, but in the interests of a full review we felt the need to sample the deserts which were super indulgent, in fact I think I would come back to Beefeater for them alone!

Kate went for the chocolate and honeycomb Sundae – a vanilla ice cream packed with crunchy honeycomb pieces and gooey chocolate-flavoured sauce, finished with a cream, a wafer and chocolate popping candy.

I chose the Cookie Dough Sundae, which featured Cookie dough and vanilla ice cream with chunky chocolate brownie pieces, chocolate sauce and cream.

We really enjoyed our meal in Beefeater. The atmosphere was relaxing rather than stuck-up and it had a nice modern setting with good food and reasonable prices. Looking around, we spotted lots of other couples out for dinner on a Saturday night, so we can’t be the only ones who felt that way. Why not treat someone you love this 14 Feb?

Principality Building Society and the Welsh Rugby Union (WRU) have entered a new ten year partnership which will help encourage, develop and grow Wales’ national game at all levels.

The partnership highlights Principality’s on-going commitment to Welsh rugby and communities across Wales. It will also open up further opportunities for its 500,000 plus members and employees who will receive exclusive offers, early access to WRU tickets and money can’t buy experiences.

 

As well as being the home of Welsh rugby, the multi-purpose venue plays a central role in Welsh life. Antler Delta C1 Case – Perfect Ryanair Companion

For years I only flew with the likes of British Airways and other so-called premium airlines so my only experience with budget airlines were the tales of hassle and hidden charges that I heard from friends and colleagues. This, I thought, I do not need.
Recently though, I wanted to go somewhere faithful BA didn’t fly to, a Czech town called Brno. In fact only two airlines fly there from the UK and Ryanair was who we ended up booking with.

Having read the Ryanair rules, it became apparent that they are a lot tighter when it comes to the size of bag you can bring aboard than BA. And as I like to travel with hand luggage only this meant I needed a new bag that fit within the Ryanair criteria. Here they are…
You can carry one cabin bag weighing up to 10kg with maximum dimensions of 55cm x 40cm x 20cm, plus 1 small bag up to 35 x 20 x 20 on-board the aircraft. So upon a bit of research I came upon the Antler B1 Case.
First of all the Antler website is very helpful, they actually have a filter which lets you tick the airline you are traveling with and will then display the cases that are suitable which makes things all very painless.

I selected the Antler Delta C1 case for a number of reasons, I wanted something sturdy that wasn’t going to fall apart after a few trips and Antler offer a 10-year Warranty on their cases which gave me the peace of mind it’s going to last. I also wanted a case with four casters and a combination lock (key locks are annoying and a combo lock allows me to put my valuables in my case in the hotel and feel safe the cleaner isn’t having a nose around my stuff!) Casters – well four means you can just glide the case along the airport floor, which after a long day traveling you really appreciate.

Above while at the airport I thought I would make sure my case did actually fit the Ryanair luggage box.

Well now I’m back from my trip I have to say I’m very impressed with the case, it’s well-made easy to transport, compact and I was actually surprised how much I managed to get in there in the end with a bit of clever packing.
The case is really lightweight and made out of high strength nylon that I’m confident can take some knocks.
Finally, the price. Before Christmas the Antler C1 was £136.00 but currently Antler have it in their sale for the bargain price of £67.50. Snap one up while you can!

I have used various different Bluetooth speakers over the last few years and all I have various niggles with but it seems in the August MS515 Stereo Bluetooth speakers I have finally found what I have been searching for.

So whats different about them? Well for start you receive a pair of speakers linked by a audio cable this is great as you get a much nicer sound separation than on the singular units that are most common. Audio is crisp and clear, bass is acceptable for my needs which was something for the kitchen and they are also small so I hide them out the way on top of my kitchen cupboards, then when Im cooking a quick flip of the switch and they pair with my phone straight away, I’m very happy with my purchase.
