chicken burger

Devil of a Chicken Burger!

Posted on 28 May 2015 by Chris Ford

AS you may know this week is national Barbecue week here in the UK and the last few nights that’s exactly what Ive been doing, I of course cooked the usual fare of sausages and burgers but on Monday we had a bit of a fussy eater round who doesn’t eat red meat which forced me to be a little more creative than usual so I thought why not try some chicken?

I came across this excellent recipe for chicken burgers from cheese brand Leerdammer and it worked a treat so I thought I would share it with you

chicken burger

4 Small Chicken Breasts (skinless and boneless)

2 tbl spoons of HP BBQ sauce

Generous Pinch of chili flakes

Salt and pepper

4 seeded burger buns (split)

4 slices of Leerdammer toastie and burger cheese

mixed leaves, sliced tomatoes

red onion and dill pickle to serve

1. Pre-heat the barbeque

2. put the chicken breast between two sheets of cling film, spaced apart, and use a rolling pin to beat them to an even thickness (helping them cook evenly). Place in a shallow dish adding the HP Sauce and chil flakes turning to coat them evenly. Season with salt and pepper.

3. Cook the chicken on the barbecue for 8-10mins turning once. Make sure the chicken is thoroughly cooked by testing the thickest part with a knife – the juices should run clear.

4. Toast the cut sides of the burger buns, top with the mixed leaves and tomatoes, arrange the chicken on top and place a slice of Leerdammer toastie and burger cheese onto each one. Finish off with sliced red onion and dill pickle.

One the Side

Make a sweetcorn relish with 100g of sweetcorn kernels 3 tbl spoons sweet chili sauce, 3 finely chopped spring onions and a little finely chopped cucumber.

Weber and National Barbecue Week

Posted on 27 May 2015 by Chris Ford

With National Barbecue Week this week (25th – 31st May) kick-starting the barbecue season, there’s no better time to come out of hibernation, get out into our gardens and enjoy good food and good company. Barbecue brand Weber and Tom and Henry Herbert of TLC’s The Fabulous Baker Brothers: A Bite of Britain have joined forces to encourage the UK to reach out to our neighbours and get together this summer with their Come on Over campaign.

“It’s such a pity we seem to be losing our sense of community spirit,” said Tom Herbert. “My family have been part of the local neighbourhood fabric, baking and breaking bread for over five generations. It’s so important for so many reasons; our Hobbs House Bakery business couldn’t run without the support of our community but on a personal level it gives me a sense of identity and belonging.”
“Barbecues are such a great way to get people together,” continued Henry Herbert “there’s something utterly irresistible about the scent of a barbecue wafting over the garden fence – it’s almost a natural call to ‘come on over’.
“Barbecuing can be as simple as sizzling a sausage or as impressive as a 10lb rotisserie pork or seared tuna. You can cook whatever suits you, your budget and your creativity, with the added benefit that you don’t need to clean the house before or after!”
Together Weber and the Herbert brothers will be providing expert advice, hints and tips on how to cook and host the perfect barbecue with the Come on Over campaign.
The Herbett brothers want you to tweet using the #comeonover about your perfect barbecue occasion

To win simply grab a sign and write:
1: Your Name
2: Location
3. What’s the Occasion
4 #ComeOnOver

You could win a Weber master-class and party at their home for you and your friends For more information or to enter the Come on Over competition visit

Head Blade – Review

Posted on 27 May 2015 by Chris Ford

Being a member of the shaved head club (not baldy lol) and after seeing these when on holiday in the USA , i always dismissed them as being a gimmick. How could they improve on a standard razor right? Well i was completely wrong. I jumped at the chance of reviewing one when Gentleman’s Goods asked if i would be interested .

The package came in the post from the lovely guys at Headblade , and i was immediately impressed with the design of the razor, it looks like a mini all terrain vehicle . The shave cream which is aptly titled Head Slick comes in a sports type bottle , the two compliment each other greatly and look very smart sat on the shelf

On to the testing

Now it states anything over 3 to 4 days growth should be taken down with clippers first, so i really put this to the test with 7 days growth. Firstly i have to say Head Slick is probably the best shave cream ive used. Nice and thin layer so you can see what your doing easily , yet superb protection. It allows the razor to glide across the scalp. It is very gently mentholated which gives a very pleasant aroma and fresh cool feeling to the skin after shaving . This photo shows my hair growth before shaving

And after just one pass of the ATX

The ATX is so easy to use as you are basically holding your hand flat against your head. No awkward razor handles to manipulate around your head.

It took about half the time it usually takes to shave, and i found i had complete trust in shaving quickly with it as the wheels keep the blade in the perfect position. You dont need a second razor either for your face, you can just hold the ATX slightly differently and it works perfectly. This saves a lot of time and expense in having separate razors. I sometimes have problems with shaving creams irritating my skin, but the Head Slick is very gentle indeed and i felt great after using it.

That about sums it up. Would i buy another? Yes im going to .

Ahead of the release on DVD and Blu-Ray of the new British Spy movie ‘Kingsman – The Secret Service‘ we bring you a in depth interview with writer and director Matthew Vaugh.

1. What was your inspiration for the film?
I came up with idea over a pint of Guinness with the lovely Mark Millar. Mark and I were lamenting about how serious spy movies have become and what happened to that feeling that I had and he had when we watched these Bond movies and you know James Coburn as Flint or like Matt all leav, left, you either turned the TV off or left the cinema as was like, “Right, lets go pay it. I’m going to be George, you’re going to Bond.” Yeah, something God knows you play Miss Money Penny in Mark Millar’s case. And it seems obvious to us. We just thought let’s do a spy, crazy, post-modern love letter to every spy movie ever made.

2. How did the Tottenham Riots come about playing a part in the film?
Actually it was born from the Tottenham Riots when I generally was sort of getting annoyed with all of these buffoons, sort of UK wannabe’s back then probably, of saying these people are dreadful and lock them up and throw them away. And then I started listening to the kids saying, we’re not rioting because we like it, we’re rioting because we’ve got no choice, no one’s listening to us, we’ve got no opportunity. And I just thought, “Wow, that’s an interesting dynamic of that sort of old school gentleman spies and the young kid, lets throw them together and see what happens.”

3. How did you find working with Comic Writer Mark Millar?
Yeah we, well we plotted it together. Well we didn’t really plot it, we were just two nerds talking about spy movies and then Millar went and wrote the thing and then sent it to me, and I thought, “What the fuck?” I was like, “Really, okay, wow, all right.” And then I read it and went, “This was great. I think I’ll write a script.” And then when I wrote the script realizing there are huge mistakes in the comic. But Mark being Mark went desperate for a bit of cash and went ahead and printed the thing. So, and I’m, so I changed it for the film. And then now he’s going to change the comic because of the movie. So it’s a, I don’t know, we have a pretty funky relationship that seems to work pretty well.

4. How did casting Colin Firth come about?
I had David Niven in my mind when I wrote Harry Hart, and once I finished writing Harry Hart, I thought I’ve got to find a modern day David Niven and Colin Firth is that. Better actor. I mean I love and respect David Niven, pretty limited, but Colin, and he said it himself, David did, may he rest in peace. But Colin’s a modern day Niven for me.

5. What was your inspiration for Colin’s character “Harry Hart” ?
He’s an amalgamation of all the great spies put together with a spruce of true gentlemanly moments put on top, a sprinkle of gentleman ness.

6. How did you discover Taron Egerton?
I was looking for Eggsy, and he walked through the door and after about 15, 20 seconds of him literally reading the sides and I was like, “My God this is him.” And didn’t have a doubt in my mind.

7. And casting Samuel L. Jackson to play “Valentine” a tech billionaire?
I’m a huge Sam Jackson fan, so I’ve always wanted to work with him and he wrote the character actually as a young, tech guy. Sort of the Zuckerberg, you know the Google guys, whatever, and then I was just like, I kept reading these speeches thinking I need someone who really knows who to take sort of pretty expeditionary stuff and make it sounds great. And Sam Jackson could read the Yellow Pages and you could be captivated. And then I said I’m going to make him older. And they were like, “Oh you can’t make him older, all these tech billionaires are all young.” And I was like well if Steve Jobs was still alive I think he would be the number one tech billionaire in the world, you know, he’s it. So it’s not all about, they’re not all kids. I said the ones with real power and a real network, they’re actually older. You know, the people who are in the technology are, you know the Larry Ellison’s, the Steve Jobs, and I thought, you know Bill Gates. I thought imagine if those guys went crazy we’d be in far more trouble I think than if Zuckerberg went nuts.

8. What is your approach to the action sequences in movies?
I look at action and storytelling as a, I think action can be the dullest part of movies ironically nowadays. And I love action movies, but when you see generic quick cutting, I switch, I actually fast forward now. It was weird, you know you watch like, I just tried watching a movie, which made a billion dollars last year, and I was like, it didn’t do it for me, I don’t know what you thought. I was just like, the bigger the sequence the more bored I was which is I think quite an achievement in a weird way. But so yeah, I try to do things differently and keep the audience on their toes.

Kingsman: The Secret Service is out on Digital HD on May 24th and on Blu-ray and DVD on June 8th from Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment

Breville Toaster– The Perfect Fit for Warburtons

Breville Toaster– The Perfect Fit for Warburtons

Posted on 21 May 2015 by Chris Ford

Along with a kettle the other staple of the British kitchen is of course the toaster, and as unexciting as they are the serve a purpose and do one thing well, I thought I was perfectly happy with my current toaster when Breville asked me to try their new model but willing to give anything a try I’m really glad I did and here’s why:

The Fit
The big selling point Breville are pushing with this new line, (well the clue is in the title) is that Warburtons bread fits flawlessly, you may have noticed in the past when toasting some of the larger loafs like Warburtons bread that there’s always a big annoying untoasted part at the top where the bread didn’t quite fit all the way down… well no more! This toaster toasts the entire slice, magic!
With Warburtons being britians biggest selling loaf I’m sure this will be of huge interest to households everywhere.

The Lift and Look
I can’t be the only one that has no idea how long my toast will take and am either constantly getting underdone or worse burnt toast, well with the Breville toaster no more! You can simply lift the toast lever up to check how your toast is doing before dropping it back down to continue, all without stopping the toasting process.

high lift

Extra High Lift
Ever put a bagel or a crumpet in your toaster then you cant get the bloody thing out without doing what your mum always told you not to and jamming a knife in there? Well no more! Because of the life and look system that bagel lifts right out no problem!

Simply this toaster looks great, with its metalic finish it looks not dissimilar to those very expensive Dualit toasters for a fraction of the cost and alot more usefull feature wise.

Coming into this I really didn’t think I could get excited about a toaster but really this is the best toaster I have ever used, so please go out and buy one right now!
The Breville Toaster– ‘The Perfect Fit for Warburtons’ comes in two varieties,

Two Slice

Four Slice

25 things men would rather do than become vegetarian

Posted on 19 May 2015 by Chris Ford

National Vegetarian Week kicks off today, but the majority of men admit they would rather give up booze, cancel their Sky Sports subscription and even give up sex rather than become a vegetarian, a study from the makers of meat snack Peperami has found.

Researchers found 62 per cent of men would never even consider giving up meat, with many saying they would prefer to give up chocolate, the internet or coffee before saying goodbye to their meat-filled diet.
Men would also rather stop going to the pub, have their mother-in-law move in with them and close down all their social media accounts than embrace vegetarianism.
It also emerged seven in ten men have some form of meat with pretty much every single meal they have.
And 81 per cent reckon they would be lost without meat in their diet.
A spokesman for Peperami, which commissioned the research, said: “Meat is an important part of most people’s diet and it seems that there are a lot of things men would rather give up ahead of the food.
“These results show that men would prefer to kiss goodbye to their mobile phones, sex and their partners before becoming a vegetarian.
“So forget National Vegetarian Week and Meat Free Monday; it’s evident that us red-blooded males who love meat still exist, and they won’t be giving up meat anytime soon.
“For those who can’t bear the thought of Meat Free Monday, we’ll be celebrating Free Meat Mondays by taking to the streets and offering meat lovers free Peperamis to get them through the day.”

The study of 1,000 men found nearly seven in ten feel that meat is a must at every meal time, and more than a third would be happier to delete their Facebook profile than give up their meaty foods and snacks.
Never watching TV again, swimming with sharks and giving up their mobile phone are also more preferable for men.
Other things to feature on the list also include doing a naked streak through town, selling their car and giving up the internet.
And it’s bad news for loved ones as some men even claimed they would rather break-up with their wife or girlfriend, or even stop seeing their best friend or family before even considering to scrap meat from their diet.
The study also found 88 per cent of men reckon they would find it difficult to be a vegetarian.
